Our Favorite Gift To Give

Christ was born to save us from eternal death and give us a new heart. When we accept God’s gift of salvation, we accept the gift of His heart. He makes our heart alive! It is reborn to the life it had before our sin plunged it into the grave. We once again possess the living heart that we had when we were innocent children—before we made the conscious decision to sin. Ah, then we possess His magnificent salvation within us which ignites His love! We possess the ability to be completely surrendered to our Savior and make Him King of our heart.

We have the ability to love like God, whereas before we only had the ability to love in the power of the frailty of our selfish flesh. God’s love is wonderful beyond words and when we allow it to fill us, it draws others to Him like a magnet to steel.

Why do so many people who are born again live without God’s powerful love? I can only answer for myself. You see, I was afraid to fall in love with God. I was afraid to love Him with childlike abandon. I feared His way was tedious and painful. I believed my way better than His. I believed myself more brilliant and powerful than Him. I doubted His love for me! Oh, how patiently God wooed me back to Himself!

When I stray—He still does. When I allow His love to be the conqueror on the battlefield of my heart, I surrender to love which defies description. His love is the compelling force which makes me desire Him with my whole heart. It reminds me of what the prophet Jeremiah wrote: “I will give them a heart to know that I am the Lord, and they shall be my people and I will be their God, for they shall return to me with their whole heart.” (Jeremiah 24:7)

When I give my whole heart to God, His powerful love flows through me. Without Him, my ability to love resides solely in my weak and beggarly flesh. No gift we’ll ever give can compare to giving God’s love.

When He transforms our heart, He becomes our favorite gift to give to others.
